Own translation of the report by the jury:

“The jury looks with admiration at the great range of activities that the In Flanders Fields Museum has developed in recent years. The museum gives a human face to the war through the stories of many soldiers and citizens. The museum does this in an open, engaging and contemporary way with much attention to heritage and other art forms such as theatre, poetry, music and literature. Despite the many thousands of happy visitors, the museum does not rest on its laurels and questions its own operation continuously in a critical way. It offers opportunities for discussion and reflexion on war. The museum also pays attention to scientific research and plays its leading role as a knowledge and expertise centre on heritage. Through its public relations department it develops a wide range of activities such as workshops, theme tours with a diary of a soldier as a guide, focusing on the multicultural aspect and assisting in opportunities for a longer stay in the region. Besides the classical museum operation, the In Flanders Fields Museum developed a series of partnerships with other organizations, keeping a constant eye on its mission. To be ready for the big commemorations a century after the beginning of the First World War, the museum will be completely renovated by April 2012. The jury gives the award for the operation of the past decade and is convinced that the museum will go the same way at the end of the complete renovation in 2012.”
