Second International Symposium on Gallipoli:
Gallipoli and National Imagination
15-16 April 2009
Centre for Arab & Islamic Studies
(The Middle East & Central Asia)
call for papers for its Second International Symposium on Gallipoli to be held at The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia on 15-16 April 2009.

Conference themes
"The Second International Symposium on Gallipoli" will bring together international scholars of the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915 who are working on national, social, economic and military aspects of the campaign, particularly as they are reflected in archival documents, memoirs, newspaper articles, visual art, literature, documentaries and films. It is hoped scholars will address the subject from varied perspectives and disciplines based on original documents and primary sources. Please send a 250-300 word abstract of your paper that will reflect your methodology, sources, main assumptions and a conclusion by 31 October 2008.
Also include the following information: your title, full name, institutional affiliation, full address, email, telephone and fax numbers and a short biography.
The proposals will be evaluated and its authors will be informed of their acceptance by 1 December 2008.

The Centre will meet two days' accommodation and the meals of participants. Details of accommodation will accompany acceptance of the paper proposals.
Costs of travel will be covered by the participants. Those participants who would like to stay longer, particularly for ANZAC day on 25th of April, may continue with the accommodation booked for them at their own expense. If you think you might want to extend your stay please let us know when you register your participation in the Symposium. Alternatively, participants are free to make arrangements for their own accommodation.
The CAIS website will contain a page devoted to the Symposium that will be updated regularly for the participants and those interested in the symposium.
